The 15 Most Memorable Star Wars Characters

Star Wars has by far been one of the most watched series of films in the history of cinematography. Next to Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings, this series not only allowed us to escape to different worlds and planets, but it was almost like a game to watch each of these as they came out lacking order.

We witnessed not only the growth and development of characters (alongside an epic plot line), but we were also able to view the incredible technological advancement that took place in the cinematography. From very poor CGI – although for the time, it was quite advanced – to filming techniques and technology that allowed us to be completely immersed into the worlds and planets of Star Wars, the series of shows gave us much more than entertainment: it has shaped generations and has led a legacy like no other.

With this in mind, it goes without saying that we have to acknowledge the fifteen most memorable Star Wars characters to commemorate them. So, here they are!

Number 15: Admiral Ackbar

Of course, we can’t have a list of the most memorable Star Wars characters without including Gial Ackbar, the leader during the Clone Wars, the Cold War, the war between the Resistance and the First Order, and the Galactic Civil war. He worked for over 60 years and his tactics were impressive enough to intimidate anyone. He makes our list because, of course, he looks pretty interesting and different from other creatures in the world of Star Wars. Even though he’s far from being fun to look at, he’s one of the coolest creatures on the ship. Who doesn’t love him?

Number 14: C-3P0

Also known as See-Threepio (or just Threepio), he's as shiny as can be. C-3P0 is also incredibly annoying and focuses on protocols like his (its?) life depends on it. He can communicate in over 6 million languages (and of course, loves to brag about it). Still, we love this character because of the humor it brings to the movies. He’s light fun in an otherwise dramatic story.

Number 13: Rey

Rey is somewhat of a newer character, appearing in “The Force Awakens'' for the first time. We learn that she used to be an orphan and that she’s focused on getting out of her bad life. However, when she actually has the opportunity to do so, she feels like backing out. She’s also quite posh and a bit of a smart mouth, something that’s fun for us to watch. She’s realistic and down-to-earth in a film that could easily be difficult to relate to!

Shooting star over dessert

Number 12: Jyn Erso

We love to see strong women in Star Wars, especially because the line of movies is usually seen as reserved for men. Of course, this has changed a bit over the past few years, but it’s still great to see empowered women on the screen. She’s just a strong woman, someone who doesn’t need to be portrayed as the tough woman or the one who gets told she’s bossy. That’s why we love her!

Number 11: Finn

We first meet Finn in “The Force Awakens” where he is a stormtrooper (and plumber). Our reason for being on this list? He’s just so darn relatable. He wants to look like he has it all under control, as we all think we would be in his position, but he really is losing it and is panicking inside, as we all would really be like were we where he is.

Number 10: Princess Leia Organa

Who can forget Princess Leia Organa? Not us, that’s for sure. Princess Leia is perhaps one of the most notable characters because she is simply unforgettable. Sure, she isn’t exactly the feminist icon, but her personality makes up for it. She’s sarcastic, tough, and she takes no BS – a real icon for all women out there.

Number 9: Han Solo

Han Solo is the Millennium Falcon who is also known for his remarkable cocky side. We see him as our hero and of course, his looks don’t hurt his reputation either. He has amazing hair, an enticing smile, and he’s overall just an amazing character to watch.

Number 8: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi has inspired many young audience members to practice their Jedi skills. His skills with the lightsaber are inspiring and somewhat intimidating, and yet, he is also one of the most selfless characters in the movie.

Number 7: Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker somehow reminds us of Steve Irwin – he’s a major family guy, he’s nice to just about anyone, and he is overall an amazing guy who’s difficult to dislike. He comes from nothing and becomes the person who masters the Force and then saves the galaxy, so really, how could we hate him?

Number 6: Grogu

Do we even need to say anything? Grogu is adorable to look at and makes us feel warm inside.

Number 5: Emperor Palpatine

Sure, he’s not the nicest character… but he makes things interesting. The Emperor is responsible for the galaxy’s takeover and although we first think he is trustworthy and a great guy, we end up finding out that he is a master of evil (a Sith Lord). Although yes, he’s tough to like because of his actions, he is also thrilling to watch because his character development is unlike anything else.

Number 4: Chewbacca

Chewbacca is, again, tough to dislike because of just how memorable and different he is. As audience members, we love to see him and his grunts. He’s a gentle giant, one that we become very closely attached to. He can’t speak, but we still feel close to him, like we can understand what he’s thinking. Let’s be honest, we’d all love a hug from him.

Number 3: R2-D2

Who knew we could feel this attached to a robot! Sassy and yet incredibly helpful, R2-D2 has gotten many characters out of trouble when there was no hope left.

Number 2: Yoda

Yoda is like our wise grandfather – the person we go to when we need advice even though we don’t really get what they’re trying to tell us. He’s lovable, he’s sympathetic, and yet, he’s incredibly strong, a bit like Dumbledoor and Gandalf. Over 800 years old, he’s an incredible master of the lightsaber and of telekinesis; in fact, what can the man (or creature) not do?

Number 1: Darth Vader

You probably saw this one coming. Darth Vader is a deep character, AND potentially one of the film industry’s best roles. We’d even go as far as to say that it’s the most memorable villain we’ve ever seen before. He is intimidating and scary, and he clearly has no remorse, from killing people for any kind of reason (or none at all) and even hurting his own son. Of course, it’s number one on our list.
